CURRICULUM

The school curriculum is determined by the administration, the faculty, and the School Board of Blessed Sacrament in conjunction with the Diocesan Office of Christian Formation.

The program in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten recognizes the developmental needs of young children. Readiness skills in Religion, Math, Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, along with exploration of Art, Music, Physical Education, the Library, Spanish, and Computer fill the academic portion of the child's day.


Children in grades one through eight study:
      Religion
      Reading 1-5; Literature 6-8
      Phonics K-3
      English
      Social Studies K-6;
American History 7-8; South Carolina History 3, 8
      Science; Life Science in grade seven; Earth Science in grade eight
      Spelling/Vocabulary
      Handwriting
      Mathematics; Pre-algebra in seventh grade and Algebra I in eighth grade are options for qualifying students

      French I for qualifying eigth grade students


Once during the course of each week the children also have a period of:

      Physical Education
      Art
      Music
      Library
      Computer
      Foreign Language


Students must pass all major subjects for promotion to the next grade. Those who fail one or two major subjects may be promoted if they (1) attend a summer school program offered by the public school district, or (2) are tutored in the deficient subject(s) by a certified teacher for thirty hours per subject.
