BLESSED SACRAMENT SCHOOL
Internet,
World Wide Web and Computer Guidelines
2004-2005
School Year
July
2004
We are pleased to offer students in grades five
through eight at Blessed Sacrament School access to the computer lab network
for limited Internet use. All students must obtain parental permission and
return the signed permission forms to the school office.
Access to the Internet will enable students to
explore thousands of libraries, databases, and websites throughout the
world. Students will not
be allowed to exchange email, instant messages, or to enter chat rooms.
While our intent is to make Internet access
available to further educational goals and objectives, ultimately parents and
guardians are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their
children should follow when using media and information sources.
Students are responsible for good behavior on school
computers, just as they are in a classroom, or anywhere on the school
grounds. General school rules for
behavior and communications apply.
Students agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner. Access is a privilege – not a right. Access entails responsibility. No member of
the school community shall intentionally cause damage to any school equipment
including hardware and software. This
includes but is not limited to the following acts:
·
Removing
or exchanging any hardware or software component from any system.
·
Deleting,
renaming, moving, copying, or changing any programs, files, or their
properties, other than his/her own files.
·
Tampering
with installed software, hardware, and files.
·
Attempting
to change passwords.
·
Attempting
to gain access to unauthorized files.
·
Damaging
other students’ work.
·
Installing
personal software on school technology.
·
Violating
copyright laws by unauthorized copying of software, graphics, and text.
·
Installing,
copying, or knowingly infecting a computer system with a virus.
·
All
use of the Internet must be in support of education and research and consistent
with the purposes and policies, as well as the curricular goals and objectives
of Blessed Sacrament School.
·
Students
must request permission to connect to the Internet.
·
Students
must respect resource limits and get permission to download files, save files,
or print files found via the Internet.
·
Students
must practice safety guidelines when using the Internet. Most importantly, never give
out last names, addresses, or telephone numbers, or personal information.
·
The
following are not permitted at any time:
§
Sending
or displaying offensive messages or pictures
§
Using
obscene language
§
Harassing,
assaulting or attacking others
§
Using
another’s password or name
School computers are like school lockers; they
belong to the school and may be inspected without notice. The network administrator or principal may
review files to maintain system integrity and insure that users are using the
system responsibly. Users should not
expect that files stored on Blessed Sacrament School servers or disk drives
will always be private.
